YOUTHEATRE
The Fit

In the previous school year, the Youtheatre was largely consumed with
presentations of “The Fit” in conjunction with the South Shore Regional
School Board and South Shore Safe Communities. “The Fit” was introduced to
several high schools and conferences as a suicide prevention pilot project
that included workshops and student discussions on issues such as bullying,
sexual harassment and building self-confidence. The tour was directed by
experienced Youtheatre colleague Natasha MacLellan with workshop
facilitation by Shirley Burris.

In recent developments, “The Fit” has been filmed by the Nova Scotia
Department of Education for possible inclusion in the school curriculum and,
as a result of “The Fit,” Mermaid Youtheatre was recently chosen National
Ambassador for Safety Community Service. Chris accepted the award on
behalf of the theatre at the Safe Communities annual conference in Winnipeg
this November (2008).
